holy fuck you guys

after years of being vaguely confused when I came across the measurement “a stick of butter” in recipes, today I learned that in the United States they sell butter in these skinny stick things:

image

it is literally a stick of butter. A STICK OF BUTTER.

i have literally never seen butter sold this way. each stick one only amounts to ½ a cup of butter AMERICANS PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MY WHOLE LIFE WHEN I SAW THE PHRASE “A STICK OF BUTTER” IN RECIPES I WAS IMAGINING THIS:

THIS IS THE ONLY “STICK” I’D EVER SEEN BUTTER SOLD IN. I THOUGHT Y’ALL WERE THROWING FUCKIN’ POUNDS UPON POUNDS OF BUTTER INTO THINGS HOLY JESUS THE WORLD MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW FUCKIN CHRIST.

Tom Blachford expands Midnight Modern architecture photo series

Modernist buildings bathed in moonlight are the subject of Australian photographer Tom Blachford’s updated image series, which goes on show in New York this week. The fourth and final set of Midnight Modern photos includes 12 large-scale images, all taken under the light of a full moon using long exposure times. Icons like the Sheats-Goldstein residence and the Doolittle House are among the projects depicted in the collection.

Finnish soldier gets separated from the rest of his unit but he’s the only one carrying the emergency amphetamines for the unit, takes too many and goes on a one man rampage for like 2 weeks straight giving the opposing Soviet soldiers nightmares for decades. Oh and he did it all on skis.

ethereal-insight

Did he survive?

loafed-beans

Yes, during his methed up 2-3 week rampage he got injured by a land mine, travelled 400km on skis, and only ate pine buds and a Siberian Jay that he caught which he ate raw. When he made it back to Finnish lines he was taken to a hospital where it was found his heart rate was nearly 200 beats per minute and his weight had dropped to 43kg (94.7lbs).

odric-master-swagtician

His name was Aimo Koivunen if you want to look him up
